I am Labour because I believe in people.
I believe people deserve respect; that means having the opportunity to learn, train and ultimately work. Every child should have the right to a good education and subsequent higher education or training opportunities not just those from privileged backgrounds. Equally, everyone should expect to be able to work in a safe environment with decent rights and pay. That the Labour party was formed to represent working labour continues to shape who we are and whose side we are on.
I believe people deserve dignity; that means having a health care system that is universal, free to access and which puts the patient first ahead of any profit motive. That the Labour party created the NHS will forever remain one of our proudest achievements.
I believe that people deserve equality; that means having a society in which discrimination against individuals because of their gender, race or sexual orientation is not accepted. All people should be entitled to the same opportunities and be entitled to the same respect. That the Labour party has long championed women’s, gay and human rights makes me proud.
Labour is for all of us and not just some of us. That is something worth being proud of.
